Google Turns Blind Eye to Demand Media
Cybersquatting

When you partner with Google, you get to play by a different
set of rules from the rest of us. This has long been a known fact, and many cry foul over it, but there's nothing
anyone can do to change it. Google does what Google wants.
Demand Media is one of the few lucky ones who you certainly won't hear crying
foul.
That's because their comfortable relationship with Google allows them to get
away with certain activities that would get the average website
sent to the very bottom of any and all Google search results, as reported by
SEO Book.
The Demand Media Google partnership rests in the fact that Demand makes most of
its money through Google AdSense, meaning Google is doing quite well off the content producer
powerhouse.
For those who don't already know, whenever a Google AdSense ad is clicked,
both Google and the publisher get a cut of the profits.
Google therefore has a vested interest in Demand Media doing well.
Many have speculated that there could be hard times
ahead if Google ever catches wind of Demand Media swooping up
expired domains (usually those which had built up a decent number of backlinks) and using them as
repositories for anchor text links back to its various domains.
This is generally accepted as a form of cybersquatting, as it trades in
on another brands reputation, natural traffic, and, in this case links, for another
company's profit.
Naturally, if Google had a problem with Demand Media carrying on in this way they
would have already done something about it. Hiding your activities from the almighty Google is not easy, and if
you're as big as Demand Media, it's impossible.
But Google is making out well on the deal themselves, which is why you will still
find eHow.com showing up on the first page of untold number of search results. It's going to stay that way, much to
the dismay of the average website owner.
