Demand Studios Title Drought Solutions

I’ve been doing a lot of refreshing lately
on the “Find Assignments” page over at Demand Media Studios. I’ve been doing a lot of late night Demand Studios
title hunting. Unfortunately, it’s been to mostly little avail. I’m writing articles that are lower paying than
I’m used to and that are outside of my regular area of expertise.
I’m sure I’m not the only one. There’s no denying that
we’re experiencing a title drought at Demand Studios. Demand Media staffer Kaitlyn McCleskey even posted in
the forum promising new titles coming soon. Not only did she say they’d be more relevant to destination sites,
but also that they’d be easier to execute.
But this was over a week ago now and there are still no new titles to speak of and
there haven’t been any more updates from Demand Media staff. So, what are your options during a Demand Media
Studios title drought?
While you can’t will more titles into the Demand Studios queue, there are some
things you can do to help get you through these less than stellar times.
How To Get Through A Demand Studios Title Drought
Apply for special
sections
Chances are there are quite a few more titles available in the total database than
you’re seeing in your queue. That’s because new writers to Demand Studios are only given permission to write
general eHow articles, and must either be invited into special sections or apply and be approved.
There are several sections which you can apply to if you have the necessary
qualifications. These include: eHow
Home, eHow Money, Tyra Banks’ Beauty & Fashion, and LIVESTRONG. Go to the help desk contact
page and clink on the links to find out if you qualify and what to do
to submit an application.
The more sections you write for the more titles you’ll see in your “Find
Assignments” queue.
Go outside your comfort
zone
Ideally you want to write on topics you already know at least a fair bit about
going in, to decrease your research time and increase the quality of your output. But desperate times call for
desperate measures, and if you can’t find articles in your wheelhouse to write you’re going to have to start
looking for more difficult, but still writable, titles.
Take advantage of the custom Demand
Studios Google search tool to find references that will allow you to get top notch information. This
will help you to write authoritatively even if you aren’t already an expert.
Keep on
searching
It’s obvious, but all too often people don’t use the most simple strategy
available to them for finding more articles: spending more time searching for them. It’s not fun, but it has to be
done. Keep the “Find Assignments” page open in an extra tab and when you’re not busy hit the refresh button to see
what has come up to the top of the titles list.
Remember to also take advantage of the midnight
Demand Studios title hunt strategy. When assignments expire you can
jump on them and claim them. Someone is going to, might as well be you.
Find other writing
clients
Sometimes it takes less than ideal circumstances, such as a
Demand Studios title drought, to get you off your butt and accomplishing something you should already be working
on. As a freelance writer, it is important for you to always be searching out new clients. You don’t want to be
stuck making all or most of your money from one source.
If this title drought has got you really hurting, that’s a good sign that you’re
depending on Demand Studios too much for your overall income. Search writing and editing
job boards, visit writing forums, get a copy of
Writer’s Market, reach out to local and
national magazines in your field, but just keep pushing, pushing, pushing. If you’re still at the content writing
stage of your career, take a look at our alternatives to Demand Studios article for some more writing
opportunities.
Remember, after this drought is over with there will likely be another one
somewhere down the line. The work you did finding work during this dry spell will help you out when the next one
rears its ugly head.
