Demand Studios Review Tip: Write General eHow Articles to Improve Grammar Score

By Demand Studios Review Editorial

Posted On 8/11/2011

Demand Media is putting more and more writers through their Writer Evaluation Program. Oh, wait, now they’re calling it the Writer Development Program. Different name, same deal.

Basically, if you’re “bubbled up” by the Demand Media Studios copy editors you will find yourself in the WEP…err, WDP. Once in the WDP, you will only be allowed to claim three titles. Each one will be looked at by a senior editor. If even one of those articles is deemed not up to snuff, you will have your writing permission revoked. In other words, you will be fired from Demand Media eHowStudios.

As we've written before, Demand Media Studios special assignments come with both pros and cons, and one of the drawbacks is that you are often going to be handed lower scores from copy editors who were told by the higher ups to grade harder than normal.

Writers who have low grammar and research scores on their Demand Studios scorecard should start writing as many general eHow assignments as possible to bring up their numbers. While special assignment writers seem to be getting an easier time of it when it comes to deciding who is WDP ready, one never can be sure how long that will last. Demand Media is trying to improve content in order to stay on Google’s good side post Panda.

A few more quick tips to help raise those Demand Studios grammar scores:

  • Write in short sentences. Like that one.
  • Read your article aloud after you've finished editing it to hear if you've made any mistakes or if something could be said more clearly.
  • Consult your AP Stylebook when in doubt.
  • Write with as few distractions as possible. Turn off the TV or radio, and if necessary go to the library or a coffees hop if there is too much noise in the house.
  • Always write in active voice. This is big for Demand Media. In other words, the car hit the squirrel, not the squirrel was hit by the car.

If you concentrate on improving your writing and focus on writing more general eHow articles and fewer special assignments you should see those scores go up over time.
