Demand Studios Getting Rid of How to
Articles?

Having a Google Analytics account is
a good idea for any webmaster, as it gives you some solid, anonymous information to help deliver the best
content to your readers. One thing it means is that you get to find out some common phrases being searched
for in your topic. One that has come up a fair bit over the past couple of days has been “Demand Studios
getting rid of how to” which surprised us.
We had not gotten any word from Demand Media, via email, on the forums, or with a
notice at the top of the work desk, that Demand Studios was planning on getting rid of how to articles. This would
be a huge development.
We’re still not sure where this
rumor started from, but after some digging we discovered nothing online about Demand Media parting with its
long time bread and butter: how to articles. Not only was there nothing from Demand Media itself, but also
nothing from anyone else, no mention of it on a blog or website anywhere.
That isn’t to say that there isn’t a blog somewhere in the deep depths of the
Internet telling people that Demand Studios is getting rid of how to assignments. As good as our research abilities
are, we can’t find everything. Still, if something this big was going down, there would be enough buzz about it
that it should have shown up somewhere. So while there may be one or two conspiracy theorists out there somewhere
putting this idea forward, it’s unlikely to have any truth behind it.
No doubt if Demand Media were planning such a big change they would have put the
word out. Since this has not happened we can only assume that the “Demand Studios getting rid of how to” rumor is
just that, a rumor. And what appears to be a baseless one.
We will of course update if this changes or if new information comes to
light.
UPDATE: One of our Twitter followers, @zoejrobinson, suggested that perhaps people were
searching for "Demand Studios getting rid of how to" because they noticed Demand Media has been removing
duplicate and similar content.
Further proof that just because you've got some data, that doesn't mean you've
necessarily got the answer or have thought of all the possibilities. It is entirely possible that that's why people
are searching for this term.
We reported on this a while back with our article eHow Removing
Similar Titles.
Demand Media is removing duplicate content in order to try to stay on the good
side of Google post Panda - or get back on their good side,
depending who you ask.
We also covered this issue with our article Demand Media Removing eHow
Revenue Share Articles. In that post we discuss how Demand Media is, in at
least some cases, removing these pieces without notification to the writer. We also cover how you can check to see
if your Demand Studios revenue share articles have been removed from eHow.com.
UPDATE ON 8/24/11: Jeremy Reed, Demand Media Senior Vice President of Content, has
confirmed to us via Twitter that Demand Studios is not
getting rid of the how to format.
