New Format Announced: Feature
Articles
By Demand Studios Review Editorial
Posted on 9/7/10:
Good news came in today to Demand Studios
writers. Demand
Media will now be publishing feature articles on a number of topics:
Family, Nutrition, Fitness, Food, Home, Money, Health and Style. These features will pay between $80-$100 each.
That’s quite a bit more than most writers at Demand are used to receiving for their work.
Granted, this will probably require more research and more carefully crafted prose
than the average eHow how to article, for instance, but it’s still something worth getting excited over for
most.
Not everyone will qualify, and writers have to apply for this format.
Simply being a Demand Studios writer isn’t enough to gain access to these titles.
The requirements are as follows, quoted from the posting on the forums from
Demand:
A minimum 3 years reporting and writing experience from a print publication, or
its online equivalent.
The ability to research, report, write and revise a story into an authoritative
article that tells a story.
The ability to tell a story in both an entertaining and informative
manner.
The ability to write in an engaging style, demonstrating an effective use of tone
and personality to draw in a reader.
Specific categories will require additional experience in the category. Money
writers need at least two years of business writing experience, or a relevant degree. Food writers need two years
of food writing experience. Health and fitness writers must have two years of relevant writing experience as
well.
The articles will require more research than the average piece as well. Writers
will be required to include at least two attributed quotes from experts in the field, obtained from first hand
reporting. In addition, writers must one online or offline source.
This is a great opportunity for those who do qualify. It should also help give a
bit more prestige to Demand Media. They often get hit on blogs and other publications concerning the quality level
of their content as well as the pay they offer contributors. This should go a ways to change those perceptions. Or
at least it’s possible that this could change some minds about Demand Media. Many minds are already so set that
they will continue to tear this company down no matter what, but so goes.
Those who wish to apply for the new format must send
an email to Special.Assignments@demandmedia.com with the subject line “Feature Writers -
AREA OF INTEREST.” Those looking to apply for a number of categories can just include one main area of interest in
the subject line and then add the rest in the body of the email.
The body of the email should include the following (again taken from the forum
posting):
Name:
Email address (preferably the one you use for Demand email):
Applying For:
Qualifications:
Specialties:
External Writing Samples:
What’s your favorite past article or assignment? Why?:
Demand expects a large number of applications and will therefore only be
responding to those they accept.
DemandStudiosReview.com wishes good luck to all who qualify!
