Demand Media to Partner with Getty
Images?

Another
bit of insider info from our Quick Guides approved Demand Studios writer.
Turns out, during the conference call all Quick
Guide approved writers were made to virtually attend a big piece of information was dropped.
The Demand
Media staff person running the teleconference told those writers
in attendance that Demand was working on partnering with a major photography company to get better images to
their writers for use in their articles.
They were told that this wasn’t going to be a stock photography company and
that they were well known. Of course the first to spring to mind, for me anyway, was Getty Images. That’s just speculation, though. Crestock is another possibility. Or maybe some other company I’ve never heard of, but those two
are the most likely. They offer images far above and beyond traditional stock photography.
Either company would be a great addition to the
Demand Media “family,” so to speak and would solve a major complaint over at Demand Studios. Namely, that
finding appropriate and attractive images can sometimes be next to impossible. Hopefully a better sorting
featuring will also be added when the new images come in.
Most exciting of all is that they are planning on
buying the rights (or leasing, or however all that legal mumbo jumbo would end up working out) to their entire
collection. If this happens there should be an abundance of images for any given article and they will all be of
much greater quality than what we’re used to seeing.
Let’s hope this deal goes through. I think it
would be good for everyone involved, from the writers to Demand Media to the mystery photo
company.
