Demand Media Partners with LegitScript over Domain Registry
Concerns

As I recently
reported,
Demand Media has been under fire lately due to their domain registry arm, eNom, playing host to an alarmingly
high number of malicious websites.
Primarily, those websites were cited as
pharmaceutical companies which were breaking eNom’s own terms of service. They have now agreed to partner with
LegitScript LLC, a company that monitors online pharmacy operations.

LegitScript made information available to Demand
Media some time ago and asked them to address the issue. They now seem to be doing so, entering into an
agreement with one of the main players calling them to task for their lack of policing
efforts.
While Demand Media certainly should have gotten
on this issue sooner, it’s good to see them taking action now. It should also make their meeting with the White
House to discuss the issue a bit less awkward.
The
meeting is set for September 29th and will include representative from ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names
and Numbers), Demand Media and other domain registrar companies thought to be hosting questionable or malicious
websites.
