Demand Studios Not Getting Rid of How to format, Demand Media SVP of Content Jeremy Reed Confirms

Yesterday we reported on a rumor going around that Demand Studios was getting rid of how to articles. We told you that we doubted the veracity of the claim and would update with further information if and when it came to light.

Well, now it has and it has come down from someone who ought to know a thing or two about the subject.

Our Demand Studios Review Twitter account got an @ message sent to us from Demand Media Senior Vice President of Content, Jeremy Reed. It simply said “No.”

He then sent another tweet telling us he’s “a fan or at least a loyal reader.”

Jeremy Reed of Demand MediaAw, shucks. Glad to have you aboard, Jeremy.

So, there you have it: Demand Media is not getting rid of how to articles. You can all breathe a sigh of relief now.

Of course, if you are worried about Demand Media removing similar how to articles, that is in fact happening. As discussed in yesterday’s post, they are working on improving content quality after Google’s Panda update, which in part penalizes websites with similar content.

This should really only affect you if you have written revenue share articles through Demand Studios (since those writers who write revenue share for eHow directly through the Writer Compensation Program, the WCP, were offered a buyout back in May).

If you have written revenue share articles, take a look at your earnings tab under the work desk. Copy and paste any title you see that hasn’t earned you any money for the month into Google to see if it is still published. Remember that sometimes articles don’t earn anything for an entire month despite still being online. That’s just the nature of revenue share.

If you cannot find one or more of your articles, send an email to the Demand Studios help desk asking them if your article has been removed, and if so if you are allowed to publish it elsewhere. Chances are, if the article really has been yanked they will allow you the chance to put it on another website, such as your own blog or a site like HubPages.
