Break Studios Update

By Brian Matthews, Demand Studios Review Writer

Posted On 9/7/11

Recently we informed you that freelance writing websites Break Studios and AOL Seed no longer had any assignments available. We wondered if they were dead in the water.

While both are still not showing any assignments, Break Studios has issued a message to its freelancers on their website. The statement is as follows:

“Hello Break Studios Writers,

We have been working hard internally [on] program optimizations with our technology which will continue over the next eight weeks-we will update you with what changes you can expect at that time.

In the meantime, please be assured that any pending articles will be reviewed over the next three weeks.

Thanks for all of your hard work and patience!

Lyndsey”

Break Studios logoSo it looks like Break Studios isn’t dead after all, although two months is a pretty long time to wait just to hear an update.

This is even more curious since their properties actually appear to have survived Panda fairly well. Traffic has gone down on some properties, but not too drastically. Take a look at the Alexa stats on some of their bigger properties:

Break.com

Break.com Alexa Traffic

MadeMan.com

Made Man Alexa Traffic

Holy Taco

Cage Potato

They are still publishing new pieces on their websites, too. I guess they just aren’t getting them from Break Studios contributors.

There are contact pages for some of their websites, where you can attempt to send a query letter and write directly for that website as your client. They don’t have writer’s guidelines or submission guidelines listed, but they do offer general email addresses and invite any questions and queries.

You can contact their men’s magazine MadeMan atfeedback@mademan.com and their comedy website Holy Taco atfeedback@holytaco.com. You can also contact the managing editor of their MMA website Cage Potato, Ben Goldstein, atbgoldstein@breakmedia.com.

There is no guarantee they won’t simply direct you to Break Studios, but it’s worth a shot.

Of course, we'll update as more information becomes available about both Break Studios and AOL Seed.
